Some plumbing situations are annoying. Others are emergencies. How do you know the difference?
Addressing plumbing issues as soon as you notice them is always a good idea, but sometimes it’s a necessity. That’s why at Griffin Plumbing, we’re not just your Central Coast plumbers from 8am to 5pm. We’re also your emergency plumbers, day or night. Here are some times you should pick up the phone without delay.
There’s No Water
Your home and the people in it need running water. If you don’t have it, you are lacking a basic sanitation essential. You need to be able to flush your toilets and clean your people, their dishes, and their habitat. If the water isn’t working, there’s a reason. That reason could be something that’s causing hidden damage elsewhere on your property, such as a broken supply line. And, believe it or not, in some parts of the Central Coast, frozen or burst pipes can even be a problem in the winter, leading to more damage when they thaw. Regardless of the cause, don’t wait for a water-free condition to become worse.
There’s Too Much Water
Flooding damages property and creates harmful living conditions. A failed sump pump, burst pipe, damaged water line, or malfunctioning appliance can lead to permanent structural damage, growth of bacteria and fungus, slips and falls, electrical risks, outdoor erosion, and more. A leak or rupture in supply pipes or lines can also lead to very expensive water bills. If there’s water where it shouldn’t be, inside or out, it’s time to turn your water off at the shut off valve and call your emergency plumber.
There’s More Than Water
While fresh water can cause serious problems, it’s not the only thing you have to beware of. Waste water, whether “gray water” from sinks, showers and laundry, or “black water” from toilets, can bring even uglier issues. Sanitation problems are a health hazard. Backed up drains can cause strain on pipes, causing sagging or ruptures under your home or inside your house or walls. Don’t risk letting “just one more flush” cause a stinky, hazardous condition in or under your home.
