Here at Griffin, our SLO plumbers treat every day like Earth Day! Looking at our calendar, the official day is fast approaching as well on Sunday, April 22nd. To celebrate, we’re sharing a few environmentally friendly tips to help the planet and save your hard earned dollars.
Let’s start with water conservation. Beyond making it a practice to take shorter showers, there are other ways to save water at home. For instance, wait until there’s a full load of laundry before running the washing machine. You can also choose to save water by making a few changes to your home plumbing with a little help from Griffin:
Get Efficient
Replacing any outdated appliances like dishwashers and washing machines with energy-efficient models. Install low-flow toilets, which save even more by simply flushing less water.
Go Tankless!
You can have hot water on demand and waste less water with a tankless system. Tankless water heaters conserve energy, because they only heat water when you need it instead of having to keep water hot around the clock in a storage tank system. Tankless water heaters are also more durable than traditional water heaters and require less maintenance as well. Griffin is happy to help answer any questions you may have about tankless water heaters.
Switch your showerhead
Did you know an average family of four could save 2,900 gallons of water every year simply by switching to a low-flow showerhead? Conventional showerheads consume 2.5 gallons of water every minute. That’s a lot of water. Low-flow showerheads are an effective way to save on your water bill and conserve water.
Attach aerators to faucets
A faucet aerator is a device that screws onto the end of the faucet and mixes air into the water. Basically, it’s an effective way to reduce the flow of water while simultaneously increasing the pressure. On average, aerators conserve 2.2 gallons per minute.
Check your water heater temperature setting
Keep your water at 120 degrees Fahrenheit. That temperature will meet your entire household needs. When you go any higher than that in the settings, you’re at risk for scalding yourself…plus it consumes excess energy.
Fix drips fast
Drips waste water and cost you more money. A single dripping faucet will waste over 3,000 gallons of water a year! Griffin’s San Luis Obispo plumbers can fix leaks fast so you can start saving. We’re leak detection experts!
